In 2006 I began experiencing discomfort in my lower left side. After many attempts at a diagnosis, I was sent for a CT scan. The scan showed a mass in my lower abdomen. I was sent through several specialists in my hometown before seeing a surgeon who had trained at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He referred me to Vanderbilt University and a friend/surgeon who he had worked with at M.D. Anderson. After testing, it was decided surgery was the best avenue. After surgery, the mass was tested and determined to be a form of LMS. The good news was it was contained. My journey continued through six month CT scans. I will be having my first one-year checkup in July.
